Abstract

The present study describes the preliminary phytochemical screening, quantitative analysis of phytochemicals and evaluation antimicrobial properties of Anacardium occidentale L. The results showed that the phytochemical contents varied significantly between the sample extracts. The antimicrobial properties of A. occidentale methanol extracts are due to the presence of a polyphenol, anacardic acid and other compounds, tatrols and tanins. Therefore, it is suggestive of the fact that extracts could be used as an development of nutraceuticals and functional foods for the control, management and treatment of health disorders, antibiotic formulation.
